Editorial Policy
This page explains how Gotthard Live produces content, verifies traffic information, handles corrections, and keeps advertising clearly separated from editorial judgment.
How our estimates work
Sources and freshness
Queue lengths and tunnel status are aggregated from traffic sources including TCS. Planned closures are separate from live observations. Missing observations are marked unknown; an unavailable feed must not be interpreted as a clear road. The displayed timestamp and freshness warning matter more than a refresh interval.
Queue length to estimated wait
Our heuristic multiplies queue length by 10 min/km up to 2 km, 11 min/km above 2 to 5 km, 11.5 min/km above 5 to 8 km, and 12 min/km above 8 km, rounded to whole minutes. Examples: 2 km ≈ 20 min, 5 km ≈ 55 min, 8 km ≈ 92 min. These are estimates, not measured waiting times. No independently validated error rate is published.
Forecasts and comparisons
Forecasts use rules, seasonal calendars and reference patterns. They are not a verified five-year observation dataset. Trends use observations stored in your browser and need at least two distinct timestamps. Route examples use illustrative corridor times of 25 min for Gotthard, 50 min for San Bernardino and 40 min for the open pass; these are not origin-to-destination ETAs. Compare full journey times in a current route planner.

Information about queue lengths, tunnel portals, webcams, scheduled closures, and tunnel status comes from publicly accessible sources, primarily TCS, AFBN, and other official or institutional sources. Gotthard Live adds editorial framing and explanatory context around those inputs.
3. Updates and corrections
Live pages refresh automatically, while guides, articles, and service pages are reviewed manually whenever material facts change. If a substantive error is reported, we correct the page as quickly as practical.
4. Separation between ads and content
Any advertisements are clearly labelled as advertising. Gotthard Live does not sell traffic assessments, route recommendations, rankings, or editorial decisions to advertisers, partners, or covered organisations. An ad is not an endorsement.
5. Editorial independence
Gotthard Live is not affiliated with ASTRA, TCS, the cantons, or other Swiss authorities. When official sources are cited, they are used to help readers interpret the situation, not to imply institutional approval.
6. Scope and limits
Gotthard Live is an informational service designed to help drivers make better pre-departure decisions. It does not replace official safety instructions, emergency closures, or direct guidance from the relevant authorities.
